On the 134th Birth Anniversary of “Pablo Picasso”, launched a docudrama on the history of the various stamps and coins being launched to celebrate his life, inspiration and talent.

October 2016, Mumbai: On 25th October 1881, Pablo Ruiz y Picasso, also known as Pablo Picasso, was born in Malaga, Spain. Regarded as one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century, he is known for co-founding the Cubist movement, the invention of constructed sculpture, the co-invention of collage, and for the wide variety of styles that he helped develop and explore.

The work of Picasso, which comprises more than 50,000 paintings, drawings, engravings, sculptures, and ceramics produced over 80 years, is described in a series of overlapping periods.

Juggling between Paris and Spain, Picasso in the 1900s started painting scenes of prostitutes, beggars, and vagrants all in shades of color blue. Later this would be known as his Blue Period. The most poignant work of this style is La Vie (1903), which was created in memory of his childhood friend, Casagemas, who had committed suicide. Picasso’s transition to the Rose Period began around 1904 when his palette brightened by pinks, beiges, light blues rose colors. His subjects were the circus people, harlequins, and clowns, all of whom seem to be mute and strangely inactive.

Some of the Unique Stamps, coins and currency notes launched to celebrate his life, inspiration and talent:
In 1975, Paris issued a stamp on a Painting by Knees Van Dongen (close friend of Picasso) Painting title: la femme a la balustrade (the woman has the balustrade).
On 26th April, 1975, France issued a stamp called ‘Paul as Harlequin’. The painting on stamp is a part of neoclassicism and surrealist period.
In 1978, Spain, Picasso’s homeland, issued eight stamps commemorating him. The multicolored stamp depicts Picasso’s different art works.
In 1982, India Post issued a stamp to mark Picasso’s birth centenary. The stamp called ‘Three Musicians’.
In 1982, a First Day Cover was issued carrying an artistic cancellation mark of a color palette holding two paint brushes.
On 27th March, 1983, a semi-postal stamp was issued for the benefit of "Journée du Timbre" (Stamp Day). The painting was painted in 1920 and is currently exhibited in the Musée de la Peinture et Sculpture, Grenoble, France.
On 5th October, 2012, France issued a stamp called ‘Three Figures under a Tree’, painted in 1907 it depicts the African masklike figures indicating Picasso’s early African Phase.
In 2010, France has issued three gold coins of 5000, 500 and 100 Euros, and two silver coins of 500 and 10 Euros, portraying a picture of Picasso with a multicolor pallet and brushes.
Picasso's final works were a mixed between the many styles he'd embraced throughout his life. He dared to make sculptures larger and his paintings more expressive and colorful. In the 80s and 90s, Picasso produced an enormous number of works and reaped the financial benefits of his success, amassing a vast fortune. He died in 1973, leaving a legacy that continues to resonate today throughout the world. An artistic legend, Picasso was truly a genius.
