Karan Johar first Bollywood filmmaker to visit Twitter headquarters

Guess, who came visiting at Twitter's headquarters in USA? None other than the internet savvy filmmaker, Karan Johar.
Given the fact that Bollywood is quite popular on the social networking site, many a Bollywood star have made a point to drop by to say 'hello'. However, Karan is the first filmmaker from the Indian film industry to visit the popular site's office. Needless to add, he had the office buzzing when he entered as the filmmaker is one of the most popular denizen and a multifaceted one at that. He enjoys a following of 8.99 million on their site.
Besides being a filmmaker whose work is quite significant and relevant to Bollywood's growth, Karan has been one of the first directors to add new dimensions to the profile of a filmmaker. He also hosts a chat show, anchors film evens, a much-sought after celeb judge for reality musical and talent shows and as well as acting. The filmmaker is fearless when it comes experimenting outside his image. He's also writing a column in a noted morninger. But for an internet savvy personality, the only time he makes excuse to avoid any aspect is when he has to write emails. He's reported to have said that he lets his secretary answer his emails, as for personal ones, he'd rather pick up the phone and talk.

What to expect from movie 'The Bhai'... directed by Thomas Jacob

Trailer for the film...

' The Bhai '
                                                  By Thomas Jacob

THE BHAI is a 2 hour feature film that tells the origin story of
India's most powerful criminal syndicate. Directed by Thomas Jacob the
film is a contemporary re-telling based on the lives of dons who ruled
the Mumbai Underworld. Starring Ashraf Ali and Abbhimanyyu Singh, the
film shows the journey of Aamir and his brothers from poor kids to
young hoodlums to dangerous gangsters. Along the way, they encounter
violence, bloodshed, death and guilt.

It is rumored that THE BHAI is the origin story of the D-Company. The film
is supposed to show a young Dawood Ibrahim and brothers enter a life of
crime and move up to become gangsters. If so, it'll be the first film to focus
on the late teenage years of India's most famous Don. But the filmmakers
deny any such reference. It is purely a work of fiction they say.

Thomas Jacob was working in New York before moving to Mumbai. He has
made international award-winning short films like Strait Jacket,
Mumbai 2025 and The Actor. He was invited to the Berlin International
Film Festival in 2010.

We talked to the director while he was location scouting in Barcelona.

Q: Congrats on making the film. What was the experience like?
A: Thank you. It was tough but exciting. We were shooting on a limited
budget so there were always challenges but it's an experience I'll

Q: How long back did you conceive this project?
A: I've been carrying the seed of the idea for 3 or 4 years I guess.
But it's only now that I am able to make a film about it. Technically,
I had to learn a lot more before I could tell this story.

Q: Violence is an important part of the movie I see.
A: Yeah. It's absolutely an integral part of the gangster life. Not so
much the violent acts in itself, more like the ever-present looming
threat of violence. I think I have tried to shoot the violence in as
real a way as possible.

Q: You mean showing more blood?
A: No, no. More like the camera is an observer. We constantly asked
ourselves what would a violent scene look like if we standing next to
it. So for most of this stuff, we tried to use minimal editing and let
the scene play out.

Q: I noticed that the film feels more Hollywood than Bollywood.
A: I don't know. I just made it the only way I know how to. I mean, I
am a huge fan of Latin-American cinema. I think that's the tone I was
going for. We tried to keep the acting real, the editing and
cinematography had to be urgent. The colors are very saturated. It was
a feel I think that works for the film.

Q: You've done a lot of short films. Did that help you in this film?
A: Absolutely. The goal always has been to learn something from a
project. So whether I am doing a short or a music video, I am always
playing with different stuff, technically and emotionally. Something
that has helped me a lot is that I've been able to take my work to
international festivals, where you meet amazing artists from around
the world.

Q: I have noticed that a lot of your shorts are based on the
Underworld. What's the fascination? Any experiences while you were
A: Haha, no, no. Growing up I had a pretty comfortable and protected
life. My father was an IAS officer. There was no gangster stuff going
on. I think I am drawn to the genre because there is the potential for
so much drama. I mean, if I just film a gangster sitting in a bar, in
low-light, there is a already suspense. Considering the life he leads,
anyone can come into the bar and shoot him, or he can instigate the
violence, there is just so much potential in the story-telling.

Q: Any other genres you would like to make a film on?
A: Of course, I love horror. I love science-fiction. Maybe even a
biopic. I would love to make a film about Jim Corbett. Man Eaters of
Kumaon is one of my favorite books.

Q: Any other books you would like to adapt?
A: Sure, many. Dostoevsky's The Idiot. I'll probably set it in Mumbai though.

Q: Can I ask you who this film is about? You have not directly
mentioned any names of gangsters in the Underworld.
A: I'm not legally allowed to mention names. Let me just say it's
about one of India's most wanted men.

Q: Thank you for your time.
A: Thank you. It was fun.

Problems Mount for Arshi Khan after Fatwa Issued & Facebook Blocks Page for Bikini-Burkha Images

It's not just the Muslim clergy in India and Pakistan who are upset with Arshi Khan's alleged Bikini-Burkha-Hijab pics. While Arshi Khan has not yet confirmed or denied if the photographs - that have gone viral on social media within a matter of hours, are her own or genuine, a fatwa has been issued against model-turned-actress Arshi Khan on Tuesday by a Maulana in Jammu.

Now, according to the latest news update by IndiaNewsNetwork.IN, after thousands of angry Muslims in India and Pakistan reported Arshi Khan's alleged hijab and burkha bikini images, Facebook responded with a harsh and heavy hand and unpublished (marked as hidden) Arshi Khan's official Facebook Page located at The page is now only visible to page admins and some others who have LIKED the page and will remain hidden until Facebook manually reviews the page.

"This happens when several hundred people mark as obscene or derogatory or defamatory an image or post or page. The Facebook automated security system springs into place and makes or marks the image or post or page or user profile as "hidden", so that the reported content does not spread and cause distress to others. A FB security official will then manually review the content and check if it complies with the FB policies and Terms of Use. If it does not, it may be deleted or may be re-instated by FB, said Facebook and social media expert Flynn Remedios, who manages official FB pages for over 50 Bollywood celebs and artistes.

According to a news report on IndiaNewsNetwork.IN, a Maulana from Jammu and Kashmir had issued a fatwa against the Indian model Arshi Khan after photographs or selfies of her wearing a bikini beneath a Hijab and other image in a Burkha, but exposing her legs went viral on Facebook.

Earlier about eight months ago a fatwa was issued against Arshi Khan for tweeting about her physical relationship with cricketer Shahid Afridi on Twitter. This fatwa had been issued by a mufti from a Madrassa in Pakistan.

The authenticity of the images could not be confirmed and Arshi Khan has not made any statements to confirm or deny if the images are hers. However, a post on her official Facebook page ( where she shared a post of the leaked images gave credence to the fact that she was aware of the vulgar images floating around and has not chosen to deny that they were hers.

We tried to contact Arshi Khan for her comments on the issue, but she was unavailable for comment. Her management in Mumbai said Arshi Khan was out of Mumbai and in Rajasthan for a shoot. "She will comment on the issue when she returns to Mumbai next week," Arshi Khan's publicist said in Mumbai.

Prashantt Honoured With A Key To The Nassau County In New York

Prashantt Guptha, who was last seen in touted to be this year's one of the best films Neerja in a pivotal role of an Indian origin American citizen martyr, has great guns going since the release of the film.

The actor who has carved his own path in Bollywood for his varied yet striking roles in his career so far, was invited to the United States of America to represent India at the India Day parade in honour of India's 70th year since Independence.

Talking about this honour Prashantt said, "We've always spoken about how, I, the Jaipur native, is breaking through Bollywood with the recent released and upcoming films. But the honour that I received at the India Day parade event in New York, I didn't see coming. Years ago, I left the City of Long Island in New York to pursue my 'Bollywood Dreams'. And after years of struggling and finally breaking through with films like Issaq, Identity Card, Neerja and the news of my upcoming films and ventures, my very own Long Island's affluent Indian community called me back to stand as a Grand Marshal of The India Day Parade. The three day event led to much interaction with Bobby Deol and singer Raghav, the entire media, political and business leaders and thousands of well-wishers, especially those in the Rajasthani community, who came to see me. The concluding Gala allowed me to express anecdotes about certain unknown connections I have with Bobby Deol and the highest glory came in the form of a prestigious award: The Nassau County political executives bestowed upon a distinct honourary key to the city. This is a token of much love and respect."

"I have completed IRADA with Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi, and a war film with Prosenjit Chatterjee. IRADA will release this Fall and the war film is in post-production", added Prashantt to enlighten about his upcoming projects.

He was also seen in films like 6-5=2, Isaaq, Identity Card & Kaalo.
